Canadian Call-girls? Brothels Now Legal in Ontario Province

Earlier this week, the province of Ontario, Canada passed a law making brothels and escorts legal.  While soliciting sex is still against the law, Escort Agencies and brothels will no doubt be popping up left and right.

Without sounding sexist, I am ok with this.

You see, while some consider this a sin, I see it as a business.  If women want to make money with their bodies, that is their choice.  I don't think I would ever do it (if I were a woman) and I don't think I would ever buy a prostitute (I'd like to think I can get it for free), but I fully support those who want to go down this road.

One thing brothels in Nevada have taught me is an age-old business rule:  Competition is good.

For people looking for Escorts in Toronto, this means more choices and (in theory) lower prices.  If one girl quotes you $50 for a half-and-half, go down the block to see if you can get it for $40.  Let the bidding begin!!

Other possible benefits include a surplus in jobs (not only for women... pimps, bodyguards and bookkeepers too!) as well as an increase in tax revenues.  If it's legal, it can be taxed (which is one of the biggest pro-arguments for legalizing other things, such as marijuana).

If they follow STD screenings like the Adult Film industry does, it will also be a 'safe' place for an extramarital fling.  If your spouse is going to cheat on you, you don't want them bringing home some odd infection, do you?

What are your thoughts?  Are you going to go look up 'Toronto Escorts agency' because of this? Is this an abomination? Do you just not care? Share your opinions with a comment below!

I think it's a good idea as it keeps both girls and customers safe!

As long as it's strongly monitored (the industry, not the sex part, pervo) to make sure there's no kids or human trafficking going on, and as long as it's not near a major metropolis (like in Vegas where it's illegal in Vegas proper but legal 45 miles outside of Vegas...so I've heard), then hump-for-pay away.

I dont have problems with callgirls as long as they don't act like leper cook and spread their royal diseases and they curb rape rate. So, look.

What exactly is differs fro. Escort service and callgirls? selfpublishing?

Cautiously optimistic that this will be mean safer conditions for sex workers.. I worry that it could mean an uptick in sex trafficking, which would suck.

I'd like to think this will make things better for people in the sex trade, as they will have more protection under the law, but I think societal attitudes still have a long way to go. Changing laws may not be enough.

Well I don't have a problem with this either. That puts women on the market to take some pressure off of me when I am tired or have a headache.

Too bad I live in the Bible belt! Its a little far to send him for a piece.

Hah! I thought prostitution was legal in other areas of Canada so I say good for them. As long as it's a voluntary choice to be in the sex industry then more power to 'em.

I don't see anything wrong with it. Plus, as long as saftey procedures are followed I see no harm. I watched a documentary once about places in Europe. They were highly regulated and everything went smooth.

lolz... So this is why my cousin was talking about Canada yesterday. He so crazy.. Back to this though.. I wouldn't ever be a prostitute, I dont think. To each their own ya know. But I guess it makes sense to make it legal, safe and taxable. People gonna be doing it anyways. :)

It's just safer this way. I'm glad it's legalized, it should be legalized in more places!

I have no problem with this at all - much safer than no regulations. OH, and Ontario is all of 20 minutes away from me...I will have to make sure my neighbor knows - he will save money this way, you know, instead of dropping all of his cash at a strip club and not getting anything out of it...

I agree with you....it's a choice for the people in the industry itself and I'd much rather patronize someplace that was safe and clean for everyone. Interesting post....

I don't care. As long as they are not hurting anyone. Besides it is a cleaner and safer alternative.

I just want to know when WE women have the same rights as men????? Guys have all the fun. They can go to a hen house and pick out a hen for a roll in the hay. But where are the legal rooster cages????

Brandon Lostinidaho said...

Ah, but men have to PAY at these henhouses.

The average woman can go into a bar or club, and get it for free. Usually with their pick of... rooster...

I live in Ontario. I support the move, as long as no brothel isn't established in my neigbourhood. Not because I'm puritanical, I really don't give a shit what consenting adults do to each other, or whether or not they exchange money for the privilege. But I can't imagine it would be a *good* thing for property values. I suspect a lot of my fellow Ontarians will have similar feelings. Which means though it will be legal, it will be a long, long time before a licensed brothel is up and running in the Great White North.

My apologies to horny NY, OH, MI, MN and PA residents who all border Ontario, and to any others who were planning to make the drive. Content yourself with the private rooms at strip clubs in Montreal instead.

i always thought you paid them not for the sex, but to leave afterwards :)

I live in Ontario, I can guarantee our fat politicians are rubbing their hands together thinking of the money they can rake in.

Out of Barnes said...

I'm ready to move to Canda. Socialized medicine and now legal sex. Despite what Brandon says, there is no thing as free sex. You might think you are getting it for free, but in the long run you'll pay for it one way or another.

I see a lot of funny phone calls coming from my house soon:

Brothel: Hello, the Canuckery, how may we help you?

Me: Yeah, how much for a Vietnamese Basket Job?

Brothel: What?

Me: Ooh, or a Buffalo Rebound with a bit of Bicycle Pumping?

Brothel: I don't know what that...

Me: Hey, do you do Franciscan Fade-Aways? Hello? Hello?

I think it sucks that this comes out almost a year since I was in Toronto. I would have had a much more memorable trip!

Bozo said...

I wouldn't say this is a good idea on a worldwide scale - but I would trust the Canadian government to supervise the situation pretty well and keep things clean and safe.

I do sort of wonder what a Canadian brothel would be like though... doesn't seem like things would get very wild - probably a lot of please, thanks you, excuse me and sorry language - always finished off with a nice "ay".

Magaly Guerrero said...

I say live and let live. Their body is theirs to do as they choose with it and no one should be allowed to say yay or nay other than when it comes to safety precautions--I'm with you in the legalization for tax purposes and we don't need any STDs mutations.

Now, um... I don't want to sound ignorant, but it is more ignorant not to ask right? Um... what's "half-and-half."

Mynx said...

Hot political topic here. There are brothels and streetwalkers but the sex industry is still illegal.
Big push to decriminalise it to give the workers better protection. It would also make it a taxable income and being a legal job, the workers would be entitled to workers comp and superannuation and all the usual job benefits such as leave.
I agree with the plan. There will always be a demand for a sex industry. Let's stop making the people who choose to work in this industry criminals

yep, its true. however I dont think i'll visit em.

I think one of the reasons for this is to make things safer for the women. If it works in that regard, then I'm all for it.
